Malcolm X - What were the results of this man's actions? Socially, politically.. etc.?

This question is a little vague i know, but what did Malcolm X say/do to that resulted in a change? How and why? What was he responsible for in the long-run, and the short-run? Why? Please discuss your answer. Also.. please try not to mention Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (who i greatly respect).. I am asking for no comparisons, strictly Malcolm X.
