How to stabilize camera?

Some years ago there was an anti shake platform for portable cd players when you used them in the car. They used to skip all the time. It was basically two 4 inch square plates with several springs in between. So when the bottom shakes the top stays steady. I bet you could find , or make one pretty easily.
