I'm trying to remember the name of a movie from the 90's. It's about a young man in a dog sledding competition

It's about this guy who is on a quest with his dogs in the north somewhere and he wins the race in the end after some of his dogs died. i know this is very very vauge but I'm sure somebody knows the name of the movie.
