Is it normal for a chiropractor to mage the area?

Part of my complaints when I came in for a visit is pain the the upper back and also the area in general. He was very discrete and can tell that I was uncomfortable. Has anyone ever had this experience or am I being taken advantaged of by my male chiropractor?
