My husband was fired and has not received his last commission check. What should we do?

My husband was fired from his sales job over a month ago. When he was fired he initialed a paper stating his outstanding owed commissions and they told him he would get it when all paperwork is finished and product was paid for. They were paid the week after he was fired and he was suppose to get the check on the 1st of this month. He talked to the HR department, they said they would send him his check, when he never got it, he called to ask where it was they yelled at him and told him when it was done, they would send it. Now it is the 24th, he has talked to his old manager, he said we should expect the check today, it never came, he called and he was yelled at once again, said he would get it when he gets it and that he shouldn't even be talking to him. He was fired because his numbers were just not as high as they once were, it was also two days after he broke his foot, and it is a sales position selling printers/copiers and he needs to be on his feet everyday. He is still owed $1,500 dollars, plus a $1,500 debit card that can be used at various department stores, and they have been trying to deny him his unemployment which we have been fighting as well. We are hoping to get a hearing after this next appeal. This company has been giving us the run around, our family is now broke and in jeopardy of getting evicted. Where should we go from here? and what can we do? We do not have the money to hire an attorney, and he doesn't start his new job for another 2 weeks.
